Giant World is the new single from Ducks, a dreamy trip-hop tune built on beats that snap and crunch, whose changing moods are evoked by rich analogue synth drones and wobbly tape-looped keys.
The song describes feelings of isolation and powerlessness followed by relief, as an excursion from the depths of the sea to the banks of a small canal.
Beginning with cold, dark currents and the ‘ticks and pops’ of fish-talk, ‘Giant World’ ends with the chirping of a dawn chorus of real frogs, recorded by the banks of Berlin’s Landwehrkanal in spring last year.
Giant World is taken from Ducks! forthcoming new album, Nak Nak; in which Ducks! explore the life aquatic, from tiny ponds and rock pools to great, dark oceans; from the imaginary childhood sea of blue crepe waves and paper fish hung from coat hangers, to the real thing; huge, teeming with life, but so alien to the everyday world of humans that it might as well be outer space.

Ducks!, Lani Bagley and Craig Schuftan, are making electronic music for dancing and dreaming since 2014. Last year, the Berlin-based Australians released their debut album ‘Ding Ding Ding’, were long-listed for the AMP (Australian Music Prize), recorded music for art-world memoirs and surrealist radio adventures, played extensively in Germany and the UK, and toured Australia with the Australian duo Moonsign as Moonducks!
“… when you sound like a cool mix between Little Dragon and HVOB – there’s no other way but looping that repeat button.” – Stereofox
Ducks! will be launching Nak Nak with shows in Hamburg and Berlin: May 3 – Barbarabar, Hamburg, May 4 – Loophole, Berlin;
